Oh What A Nght!

Harvey has got a slight case of kennel cough at the moment so I went to the chemist to get some children's cough syrup to sooth it a little. I think this was the first time the lady in the chemist had been asked for cough syrup suitable for a dog and she was a bit unsure at first and then saw the funny side. There was also another customer waiting and he said, "you need Tixylix", he'd given it to his dog to combat kennel cough. So Tixylix it was and then the lady said, "is it for a chesty cough?". How I didn't crack up laughing then I don't know, I just said " yeah, sounds a bit chesty, that one will do". Harvey got his first dose at lunch time and by the time I got home at tea time he was hardly coughing or sneezing at all.

The kids were trashing the old shop again, I'd been home about 5 minutes and then went outside with the dogs and noticed smoke coming from the old shop area, I thought at first the it might be a fire from someone's garden but then I heard the sirens getting closer and closer. I got the dogs back in, grabbed the camera and ran upstairs to see what was going on. The old shop was on fire and a fire engine was just pulling up at the gates which were locked, figures, secure enough to keep the fire engine out but not nearly secure enough to keep the kids out. They got through in a matter of seconds, out came the hose and they got started on putting out the fire, while the kids stood around clapping and laughing. I wonder if it would have been so funny if one of them had been trapped inside? A few moments later a second fire engine arrived and another team of firemen jumped out ready for action. At one point the bushes behind the shop caught fire and it could easily have spread very quickly across the land behind the houses, if the firemen hadn't arrived when they did, it could have been a whole lot worse and a very real danger to life. After about an hour, the second fire engine left, leaving the remaining team to finish of extinguishing the fire, it took another hour before the smoke died down.

The police were on the main road directing the traffic over the ramps covering the hose that was laid across the road. I would have though that, having called them on Sunday, they might have called to see I'd seen anything but they were quite content waving their arms about in the middle of the road while all the kids sat on our wall taking in the evenings entertainment.

The guys at South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service did a fantastic job, and it's reassuring to know they are only round the corner, just in case these half wits come back and do it again.

Getting Along

Lucy and Harvey are getting along like a house on fire :-) We've tried introducing a friend for Lucy before but because she is so timid we've always had problems with Lucy being pushed out or snapped at so we had all but given up hope of finding another dog that was just a timid as Lucy and wouldn't result in fighting over toys and food etc. Harvey has been a star, he's never snapped at Lucy, he's very timid, more so than Lucy which is a good thing as Lucy is still top dog but she won't take advantage of that and would never be nasty towards Harvey. They've been racing round playing together and giving them a chewstick each hasn't been a problem, they just sit down and eat their own, although we know if Harvey walks off and leaves his, Lucy would be on it in a second! Harvey is booked in at the Vet's on Saturday for his final for vaccination and a checkup, we'll also take their advice on when to book him in for neutering.

We watched Big Brother last night, we've not bothered with it over the weekend as was getting a bit boring to be honest, but the introduction of Becky should shake things up a little and we'll be tuning in again tonight. We also managed to keep off the gin and bicardi, Debbie likes a drink with dinner and I like several after dinner so we've decided to give it up during the week and last night we were on Vimto and Robinsons Summer Fruits. I think I just get thirsty in the evenings, I had more than four pints of juice.

Rant warning! .......The kids were back on the roof of the old shop across the way when I got home from work yesterday, they were also inside and trashing the place, window after window was being smashed. I didn't bother phoning the police again, what's the point, if they did catch them, they can't really do anything. It's not really the kids that are making my angry, yes they shouldn't be there but it's the contractors who are working on clearing the site to make way for houses that need a kick up the arse. They must have known yesterday morning that kids had been overnight on Sunday and yet have not made the building secure which I think is just plain irresponsible. Rant over now before I start turning into Victor Meldrew and end up getting buried in the back garden up to my neck!

Up On The Roof

We never managed to watch The Missing last night, we had problems with kids on the roof and inside a shop that closed down two weeks ago. It's behind our house and they were throwing things off the roof which could have easily ended up in our garden. We stood at the bathroom window and when they saw us they ran off. I called the police because the building needed to be made secure. It took about half an hour to get through and they said they couldn't do anything about making it secure as they don't know who the new owners are but asked me to call back if the kids went inside again. We were just about to put the film back on when we heard them shouting outside again, so I looked out the of the bathroom window to find them back inside the building. So I phoned the police back as requested and had to wait another half an hour to speak to someone, obviously they'd gone by then but left the lights on. This time they said they'd send a patrol car round when one was free. By this time it was getting late so we abandoned the film and went to bed.

Harvey was up bright and early this morning, both he and Lucy were a bit more energetic after sleeping most of yesterday afternoon/evening. Harvey is getting used to the cats now and Toddy is walking about the house without his back up and is back to terrorising the window blinds. Misty's just not bothered and sits there looking mean, Harvey seems to know to keep out his way.

LOVELY WEEKEND :-))

After a very tiring week, I ended up in tears by the time I got home from work on friday, Paul as usual was there with a big smile and even big hug for me, make it all worth while coming home

Friday evening we watched Vanessa get evicted from the Big Brother House and all the audiance was booing her, not very nice really....

Saturday we had a ride to Manchester Dogs Home which is about 80 miles away, after getting lost we finally found it and had to wait in the car for half hour till it opened, we had a good look around and thought as usual there is nothing to suit us, then to our amazment in the very last kennel, there he was a scruffy ickle Jack Russell, we asked one of the kennel staff about him and she asked if we had another dog, we replied YES and she said they would not let us take him until they had met each other, so we had to drive all the way back home and pick Lucy up and then drove back again behind a very slow Lorry, just making it back at the kennels in time before they closed...phew...

We have name our new family member HARVEY and he is really getting on well with Lucy but a ickle warey with the cats!!

On the Way home we called at Blockbuster to get some dvd's, Paul came out empty handed as they had none of the three films we wanted!!

While I gave Harvey a bath to get rid of the smell of kennels, Paul went off to Choices to see if they had the films there, we ended up watching The Haunted Mansion and the other film we got we will be watching this afternoon is The Missing.

Today we have been for a walk at Fairburn Ings it was lovely, we walked for miles and fed the swans, geese and ducks a full loaf of bread (piccies above).

Its now chill time with a nice cuppa and the DVD we did not manage to watch last nite due to too many Gin n Tonics and a very hetic day...lol...

Later Aligators...

Todays Good Reads

While trying to eat an enormous ham and cheese buttie I found that Demob Happy Teacher has a rather good idea for combatting traffic congestion and after only getting glimpses of the footie last night, got the full rundown from News & Musings.

Bed Time

The new bed arrived yesterday and surprisingly I managed to get it home in my small car. It was really heavy and by the time I'd got it upstairs I needed some oxygen, there was none to hand so I had gin and lemonade instead. I knew we were in for a long night when I pulled out the instructions to find about 20 pages of diagrams. Nothing was numbered or anything, we had to identify each piece by the size, number and position of holes on each side so we kept getting the bits mixed up. Once we'd got the base done, the rest wasn't too bad, especially with the electric screwdriver for all those screws. It took us about 2 hours to complete, by which time Debbie was shattered and just wanted to get in the thing and get some sleep. We finished just in time for the penalty shoot out, there was no point in watching it, England + Penalties = The End, so we turned over and watched Big Brother instead.

I phoned Dad later to wish him a happy birthday and to make sure he'd not drunk all that whisky so I can have a sample when we're next over. He confirmed that England had lost on penalties....again, even Beckham missed, I think Mr Goldenballs is going to have to be downgraded to Mr Bronzeballs. It's time to chuck all your flags away, unless your from Yorkshire like me and you'll be putting them in the loft ready for the world cup.

Whisky

Last night we went to get Dad his birthday present, a very nice bottle of Isle of Jura whisky and a flashy purple gift bag to put it in. We arrived at Dads house and I reluctantly handed it over. I've never tried this one before so I think we should go and get another bottle some time soon. We're looking forward to sampling a few whiskies when we visit Scotland later this year and I dare say there will be a bottle or three coming back with us. I think we'll be trying quite a few different tipples when we do our first booze run next year, it's bonkers really, all this scotch gets exported to Europe and then we have to go fetch it back again.

The secret of the collapsing bed incident it out....I'm waiting for the new bed to arrive here today, there was obviously a fault with the old one, probably the fact that we bought it from MFI, we should have known better. Bits have been falling off it for months now. I should really have fixed it ages ago but as with so many things, I never got round to it and on Sunday I finally disappeared through the creaking struts. So it will be a bit of a race tonight to get the new bed home and start building while we watch the footie.

Beached Whale!!

On Sunday nite, Paul decided to launch himself onto our bed, what a mistake! There was this loud crunching sound and next the bed collasped under the weight of a BEER BELLY the size of a WHALE...lol...

Luckily we had the Argos catalogue was to hand and much to my surprise was still open and taking orders at 9.30pm, I pick which one we like and it was ordered within five mins....

It has to be delivered to Pauls work tomorrow so he will be watching the fottie upstairs while making our new bed up, lets hope he does not do it again...lol...

Only one more nite of sleeping on a matress on the floor, mind you we have had the best sleep in ages over the past few nites.....

its always an adventure of somekind or another in this household...lol...

Till nest time around..

Chinese Mushrooms

I was a bit late getting the pots done and everything yesterday so we sacked making any dinner and opted for the Chinese option, Chinese mushrooms with pork and chicken, very tasty indeed, but still not as good as our usual special fried rice.

We watched Eastenders to see what this "disaster" was all about, and true to form, it happened 10 seconds from the end so we'll have to tune in next time to see who was caught out by that crumpling dragon. Dragons in Eastenders, honestly, it's amazing what they'll do for ratings these days. Big Brother was a bit on the boring side, we're fed of watching Jason groping Vanessa at any opportunity, although it was funny watching Nadia being teased about the operation. I just caught news of another bust up in the house on the breakfast show and after checking the web site, it appears that Vanessa has had a row with Jason, maybe she's come to her senses, it's about time!

Cheeky Boy

After a very long first day back at work we managed to stay awake long enough to catch the footie and Big Brother. Well, I watched the footie, Debbie's not at all interested in grown men chasing a ball up and down a field. At least it was up and down the field last night and not 10 yards outside our penalty area for 90% of the match. I think Debbie is becoming a secret Big Brother fan, I don't have to ask to change channels at anymore, she wants to see what they've been up to as much as I do. We're hoping Vanessa goes this week and Jason the week after. Ahmed should probably go as well, every time the show comes on, the opening line is .....Ahmed is alone in the garden...... If they replaced him with a gnome overnight, would anyone notice?

Zippy's just about learnt a new word ... "cheeky". It's almost there, I think he needs a few more days to perfect it. I think he's trying "cheeky boy" as well but that might take at bit more time. Now he's picking things up, we're going to have to be a bit careful with what we say, especially when the cats are mucking about with the window blinds as it's not something you want repeated when you have visitors.

Back To Work

Yesterday we went over to see Dad to take his Fathers Day card and goodies and called in at the supermarket on the way home for a few bits and pieces. When we got back home, Misty and Toddy were both sat in the corner of the kitchen together and didn't come to investigate the shopping as they usually do, very strange. They must have been fast asleep and just woken up, they were both back to normal after a few minutes. Despite our best efforts to stay awake after lunch, we both fell asleep in the afternoon catching up on some zzzz's after a busy week. After dinner, we watched the Booze Cruise, a TV comedy drama which has been on before but we missed it the first time around, it was as entertaining as we'd hoped and we're looking forward to the new one later this year.

So it's back to work today and time to starting counting down to our next holiday in ten weeks time, but between now an then, we've got the great British summer and lots of day trips out at the weekends.

Lovely Day

We went to a wedding reception last night, we got a lift there so we could both have a drink. It was at Sheffield United Sports Academy bar and we had a realy good time, the only problem being that they ran out of vodka by 9pm and bicardi by 10pm so if your planning to go there, I suggest you take your own booze lmao.

The plans not to have too much to drink last night were chucked out of the window as usual but we still managed to surface this morning in time for a trip to Knowsley Safari Park. When we got there and had some breakfast, there was no one else around, by the time we had done a lap of the safari park, the car park was full.

We had good views of the lions and rhinos today, the tigers were a bit harder to see as the grass is getting a bit overgrown, I guess when they ask someone to go in and cut it, there aren't that many volunteers. We had a bit of trouble with an emu, I was trying to take a picture of it close up with the window down and it got it's head inside the car and got hold of the little bear Debbie has on the dash board. After a short game of tug-o-war, I managed to get it back and we drove off before it tried to grab something else.

The otters were were in full view for the first time this year, running up and down the bank making alot of noise. The meerkats have some new additions and they are tiny. The baby giraffe has grown since we last visted, it's almost as tall as the others now.

We can't wait to go back again, probably next month and this time we'll be ready for that emu.

Disapointing Day!!

We set off this morning to Twycross Zoo in Warwickshire, when we got there it was packed with coach loads of under 7 year olds!!

It would not have been so bad, but they were alowed to wander freely, they should have been behind bars with the other ickle monkeys!!...lol...lmao....

We set off to have a good look round only to find that all the animals were behind glass screens, with hundreds of kids with sticky fingers it was a nitemare to get a good look and tring to get a picture was impossible.....

we did manage to get a few good pictures which will be on our photo album shortly...

We decided that by lunch time we had had enough and made our way home via Pauls grandmas house, she was chuff to bits to see us and Paul's aunty was there with Ben her dog witch loves Paul's ankles to bits...lol...

Apart from the dissapointing Zoo, its been a magic day...

Our sunburn is cooling down alot, we must have used 3 bottles of aftersun and various creams that we got from the chemist....

Until the next adventure.....

Scorchio

Today we've been to Cayton Bay on the east coast with Lucy. Setting off early, we didn't hit much traffic and got there in good time before it got busy. It's a while since we've been and I swear that path on the cliffs gets steeper every time we go. We went without our new beach shelter which was a bugger because once you've absailed down to the beach, there is no escaping the sun. If I had remembered it we could have set up camp down there for a good few hours. Instead we walked from one end of the beach to the other, exploring all the rock pools along the way. We even managed to coax Lucy into swimming a few meters, she's not keen on water at all. She was a star all day, only running off once, and even then it wasn't far.

I tried flying the power kite but there wasn't quite enough wind, we got it in the air but it wouldn't stay there. Eventualy we made our way back up the cliffs and could have done with some oxygen when we got the top but we had to settle for a cup of coffee.

After a couple of butties, onwards we went to Whitby parking on the east cliff for a change to avoid the crowds on the west cliff. It does seem better parking up there and the alternative steps from the car park don't seem nearly as bad as the 199 steps from the Abbey itself.

We only spent an hour there, the highlights being seeing the Endeavor, a nice horse and a marvelous South American band playing on the pier. We really do like the sound of this music and will be looking around for some cd's soon. They we're selling their own cd's from a suitcase but at £12 each, I think they were having a laugh, maybe it's because I'm from Yorkshire and have combination lock on my wallet.

The ride home wasn't as easy as we had hoped, our plan to set off back early afternoon to avoid the traffic back fired as everyone else was doing the same to get back for the footie match tonight. Now were back home and both a lovey strawberry colour, after sun lotion has been applied to the out side and alcohol is now being applied to the inside.

New Car

Despite my valliant attempts to drink enough booze on Friday night to remian unconcious the whole of Saturday, I still woke up and we still had to go look at new cars for Debbie. We had a look at a Honda Jazz first, it looked cool enough and and Debbie gave it a test drive to make sure. We were both pleased all round with it but decided to look elsewhere before comitting.

Next stop was Toyota and there in the forecort was the new Yaris Blue which looked a cracking little car and more than a little sexy looking. We took it out for a test drive and noticed the smart interior, CD player, leather clad steering and geal knob. By the time we got back, Debbie wanted to know where to sign, but we had to wait while the salesman got to the end of his performance.

So we signed up and to my amazment, given the option of picking it up on Wednesday or Friday, Debbie said Friday.....so I stepped in a proposed that Wednesday would be better becuase I couldn't wait to have a drive in it. I couldn't on Saturday because I was still about 10 times over the limit. So we are going to pick up Debbie's new car on Wednesday.

I'll add a photo of this sexy beast shortly.

Todays Good Read

While trying to get my chops round todays enormous butties I've noticed:-

Alfred The OK witnesses a Peregrine Falcon doing it's thing.

Hooray Hooray

It's our holi-holi-day! The weather forecast is looking good for a few days out, we're planning a trip to coast, another visit to Knowsley, going to a zoo we've not been to before and a trip to the dentist.

After a quick shopping expedition to the supermarket last night we had a meaty tea, Chinese style pork chop things and a selection of meat on a stick, not sure what it was but it was very nice and was washed down with a vodka and coke or two. We're both exhausted by this heat and not getting too much sleep, we managed to stay awake long enough to watch Big Brother and I'm really looking forward to tonight's pretend eviction show, sad I know, but simple things please simple minds and they don't come much simpler than this one.

On the journey in to work this morning I could have had 10 points for paper boy with trolley who was meandering down the middle of the street, he spotted me when I got within six inches of him, maybe next time.. This particular street is one way, quite narrow and has parked cars on both sides. A few years ago I used to have fun some mornings playing chicken with a moped that used to be coming down the wrong way when I turned in to the street, it's funny how you know someone is panicking even if you can't see their face.

Todays Good Read

While devouring a couple of ham and salad cream butties I read all about how Bridget Who came to the rescue when a cyclist was set upon by thugs.

Quack Quack

After a very tasty tea last night, fish cakes, fish fingers, wedges and spaghetti, we watched our Bridget Jones dvd we bought last week. That boating incedent is a classic. It seemed to get hotter as the night went on and we ended up having the fan on number 3 all night long.

A couple of weeks ago I thought it would be quite funny to keep saying "quack quack" to Zippy, I mean if he's struggling with words maybe he could start with duck impressions. Over the last couple of days that's all we've heard ... "quack quack.....ehh ho....quack quack". This morning I went down stairs to take Lucy out and when I came back in, the first noise out of the living room was "quack quack". I think we need to teach him some new sounds now or we're going to have a whole load of female mallards in the back garden.

Two days to go and counting the seconds now, it's far too hot to be working, the sun is out again today and it's getting hotter already. I've given Dad a lift to the hospital this morning, he's got have an injection in his eye so he'll not be able to drive afterwards, rather him than me!

Gas Mark 6

Another baking day at work yesterday, with no chance of the air con unit working in such high temperatures, we opened the windows which seemed to work better! Debbie had new air con units installed yesterday as promised so she didn't suffer as much with the heat.

We called at Dad's last night and got the latest news on Grandma, she's out of hospital and staying with her daughter for a while, it looks like they will do the new hip replacement but she's got to go back in 4 weeks to find out.

We went to Dads before we'd had any tea so when we got back we just had a couple of microwave burgers and I popped round to the Chinese for some chips and curry sauce, not sure it's healthy but it sure was tasty! We watched Big Brother last night to see who was nominated to go in the spare room for a week and depending on who gets voted out it could be quite interesting in a weeks time.

It was very hot yesterday and the forecast for today is hotter still with the possibility of a thunderstorm or two so it's going to be muggy as well. We had a quick rain shower this morning which was nice but we're back to hot sunshine again now.

We couldn't be bothered with the computer or anything last night, we just sat on the sofa watching telly with the fan on us. Zippy was in full voice, I think he's enjoying this hot weather, he's just started saying "hello" properly instead of the tellytubbies style "ehh-hoo".

The air con at work packed in yesterday afternoon when sun came round our side of the building. It must have overheated because it came back on again for 20 minutes later then fizzled out again. We've got the worlds only air con unit that doesn't work when it's hot! Debbie's having air con installed today at work so it should be a bit better over there, I'll just have to direct my fan on to the air con unit to keep it cool!

Lovely Day

We had a lie in on Sunday for the first time in ages, I think we both needed the extra sleep after the long day on Saturday. The sun was beaming down and the temperature was rising quickly so we had the fan on during the morning for the first time this year. In the afternoon, we visited Grandma at Chesterfield Hospital, it took some finding but we got there in the end. Grandma never stopped laughing the hole time we were there, if I didn't know better I would have sworn she'd been at the sherry ..lol.. She's had the whole ward in stiches while she's been in there and the nurses have certainly got there hands full! We should find out today if she's having a hip replacement straight away or sometime in the future.

On the way home we took a wrong turn which took us out into the countryside and past Bolsover Castle. It's looks very nice round there so I think we'll pop down again for a proper look round. The plans to have a bbq were dropped, it was just too hot outside to be messing about so we had some chicken and salad instead. We were on the computer most of the night, which is unusual for us, we normally just have an hour on there at most. With the bicardi and lager going down a treat we both a thoroughly good night in, reading blogs and chatting on msn. We've got that site referral thingy on here now so we can see where people are coming from and we noticed some were missing from our blog roll, if there is anyone out there linking to us that we don't know about, let us know and we'd be delighted to link back to you.

This morning it's very hot, even at this early hour, we had the fan on at home and now I've got the air con going in the office which will take the edge of the heat but it never gets that cool in here. It's forecast to be the hottest day of the year so far, it's going to be torture!

Disapointing Day

Well What a Day!!

The Motor Show was a disapointment, there was not that many cars there and our stand was the worst of the lot!

We did see a few nice cars and we did see the new Yaris, which was very nice.

After we went to see a car at the Showroom were I work, only to find another couple looking at it. This lady was a not a soft top driver, she would have been more at home in a clapped out Fiat Uno, but once she knew we was interested she was going for gold in persuading her husband that she really wanted the car. I was really gutted about loosing out but another one will be along soon!

We went therapy shopping in the afternoon and got loads of nice tops and a dress which cheered me up a bit.

We also had visitors yesterday, our very good friend Michael but his brother came along aswell, which was cool until he pinched Paul's seat and we ended up sitting apart all nite which we hate as we always snuggle on the sofa together!!

We went to our local blockbusters and got two dvd's to watch last nite, one was Good Boy about a dog from outter space and the other was Cheaper by the Dozen staring Steve Martin and they both were very enjoyable.

Many thanks to Accidental Smallholder for linking to us.

Todays Good Reads

Today I've noticed some nice photos at Andrew's Photoblog, spot of fishing on the riverbank with Free Market Fairy Tales, Gemmak's Blog is in the cat house, oudor of Stella Artois coming from Headcleaner, cheap milk at Minitry Of Information, flatulance at Nick Owen Is God, Supermum is hanging about outside the off-licence and The Urban Badger has started a new job.

Grandma

We had a phone call from Dad last night, Grandma has been rushed back into to hospital following her fall two weeks ago. Our thoughts are with her and we'll be seeing her just as soon as we can. It's her 85th birthday on Sunday and we were all looking forward to the party, we'll save that for another day now. She fell at a shopping centre in Sheffield on a raised paving slab and they've not offered any apology at all, because in this age of compensation chasing, if they were to even send a bunch of flowers or anything, they'd be seen as admitting liability. I wish we could go back to the days when if someone applied for compensation, it was really justified instead of everyone being out for every penny they can get. Everyone in society is watching their own back now, you can't even help the little old lady across the road anymore in case something happens and you end up in court... it's ridiculous.

Inner Peace

Im passing this on to you.......It is definatley working for me...I think I have found inner peace. I read an article that said the way to achieve inner peace is to FINISH things I have STARTED. Today I have finished 2 bags of crisps, a cherry cake, a small box of chocs and strangled the crap out of someone I did not like. I feel better already.

Paul & Debbie

Short Week

This week is going quickly, Thursday already, top banana! Sometimes these four day weeks seem to drag on more than a normal working week for some strange reason, but not this week. Just one more week after this week and we've got another week off work, I think we're going to have to go to the coast this time, we've not been for ages, the last time we went is was snowing. It'll be either Cayton Bay or Cleethorpes as they allow dogs on the beach all year round.

We've been watching Big Brother every night, I think Debbie is getting into it now, but still pretending not to like it. It's certainly not been dull, depending on which way you look at it, Kitten was an inspired selection or a monumental cockup. The others are getting into it a bit more, the confrontations, scheming and arguments have started and we're barely a week in to the show.

Post It Vote

We've posted our vote for the local and European elections, we're not sure we like the look of any of the candidates, but if you don't vote, then you can't complain about how our county's being run. We seem to be one of the lucky ones that actually got a voting pack, apparently there are still loads that haven't been sent out. I can't understand what the problem is, it's only like sending out the old polling cards and they always arrived in time. The voting pack itself could have been made easier, we had to read the instructions about ten times, it's like trying to work out how to put something together you've just bought from Ikea . . . . tear here, fold there, fill in X, Y & Z, put X in envelope A, put Y + Z + A in envelope B. It's an election, not Test The Nation!

Carry On Walking

We've had a very busy bank holiday weekend. On Friday night we watched the last episode of Friends and then the start of Big Brother,

On Saturday morning we set off into town for a spell of shopping, we looked in a few places for a necklace but still nothing was jumping out at Debbie so the search goes on. Our next stop was JTF and we got some bargains there including a foot spa, smoothie maker and a new dvd, Les Patterson Saves The World. I get the impression Debbie is no rush to watch this one, she can't stand Dame Edna.

We visited my Grandma who had a nasty fall last weekend, she was a bit bruised but in good spirits and pleased to see us. Dad was there when we arrived and was installing a new phone extension so that Grandmas could have the phone next to the chair. From there we went to Crystal Peaks which was very busy but for once, we found a parking space straight away. Debbie got an England shirt and I got a couple of new flags for the car as one had flown off on the motorway.

We had a couple of smoothies in the evening after tea and neither of us could cope with all the fruit, I think I might have made them a bit too thick.

It was raining when we woke up on Sunday so we decided we'd do nothing all day. We watched Return Of The King which was fantastic and just as hard to follow as the first two movies. Debbie cracked on with the invitations in the afternoon which we think are now finished. I risked another smoothie later on and this time got it about right, it was still quite filling though. We watched Fame on dvd, which is donkeys years old but I've never seen it before so it was nice to see what the classic was all about.

The sun was shining early on Monday morning so we decided to take Lucy for a walk over the road. We got to this nice bit of a pond type thing with wild flowers all around. Debbie set off taking some photos and I got my camera out and took a couple. Then I wanted to get the whole pond in the shot from a lower angle so I crouched down but was a little bit close. So I shuffled backwards and ended up standing on some rocks. As I looked round to see where the rocks had come from, the full horror struck me, I was actually stood on a bridge with a pond on one side and a stream on the other. As I spun round, the slow motion kicked in while my ability to balance faded away and Debbie watched on, unable to get her words out as I disappeared from view. Luckily, I managed to launch myself off the bridge slightly to one side so I didn't end up in the water, I was just covered in grass stains and feeling like a right pillock.

So we headed home so I could get another shower before we set off to Asda for some supplies for a bbq. Having learnt from last time, I put the grill higher up so nothing got flame grilled to death, however, I still managed to reduce a fine cut of steak to a lump of charcoal. The burgers and sausages were tasty though. After a couple of glasses of wine we retired inside to watch Return of the King again, and as I suspected, Debbie was asleep within 15 minutes and I was also fighting the urge to go to sleep so I had a couple more beers to keep me awake. Later on we watched Brother Bear with the Moose commentary on which I thought was hilarious from start to finish, Debbie just thought it confirmed that I've lost all my marbles. We just about managed to stay awake for Big Brother before the need for sleep overcame us both.
