Walk In The Snow

This morning, with everthing dusted with fresh snow and the temperature below zero, we went for a walk around the woods and reservoir.

Happy Anniversary!

It's our wooden wedding anniversary today, we had both booked the day off work and were planning to spend a special day at the coast but alas it wasn't to be with Debbie in her new job and having to work.

It's fitting that it's snowed for Snowbabies on our anniversary, after I dropped Debbie off this morning, I headed into the hills in search of the white stuff.

So from me and my lovely wife Debbie, thank you for reading, we're looking forward to the next five years and beyond!

A Walk Round Langsett

This morning we went for a walk round Langsett to enjoy the snow covered scenery. Having learnt that it gets busy mid morning, we got there for 9am before the rush and it was a good job because we've never seen so many people walking about in the middle of nowhere!

We chickened out of walking all the way round because on the moor there was a very icy wind and we'd have turned blue before we got down the other side. Instead we walked along the top route and then came back along the bottom route next the the reservoir.

This Weeks Snow

It's been a bit on the wintry side this week! The snow showers started on Sunday, nothing much on the ground by nightfall but by Monday morning we had a couple of inches of snow to wake up to. The drive into work wasn't too bad, the roads we're fairly clear and there wasn't too much traffic.

We had snow shower after snow shower through Monday and by mid afternoon, I was allowed to leave early given there was about 4 inches of snow and rising. Debbie on the other hand had to stay at work until the bitter end and by the time she set off, we had 5 inches of snow on the ground and the roads were getting increasingly tricky. It took Debbie an hour and a half to make the usual 20 minute journey back home!

We had some fun and games getting the car onto the drive but we got there in the end. By the time the snow stopped, we had a grand total of 6 inches on the ground with drifts a foot high around the garden.

We had no further snow on Tuesday and it started to melt a little, by Wednesday it was starting to melt a little faster in the winter sunshine but we still had at least 4 inches of snow everywhere.

This morning the snow came again, started about 7am and carried on until noon, giving a fresh fall of about 2 inches. This lighter fall seemed to cause more problems on the roads than the heavier fall on Monday.

The main roads are clear, the gritters seem to have got on top of the situation faster this time and we're not expecting any more now for a few days at least. We've not seen the tarmac on our road since Sunday but at least the packed snow has filled in all the pot holes!

We can't wait to get out in the countryside at the weekend, until then, here's a few snaps from this week.

Snow!

It started snowing yesterday afternoon and it's been snowing on and off since then. We've got more now than we've since the 90's and it's still coming down.

Up to now the roads haven't been too bad here but I think they'll be bad tonight and who knows what they'll be like in the morning.

Snow Last Weekend

It didn't escape our attention that it was snowing outside last weekend and because it melting at home we decided to go for a walk round Langsett reservoir to take in the winter scenery.

Debbie got some shots of the snow in the garden before we headed for the hills...

Then we both snapped away as we trudged round the reservoir, from the winding woodland path to the bleak moors and back again.

It was a perfect end to our holiday and now I think it's time to let in Spring.

A Walk Around Langset In The Snow

We never did see much in the way of the forecast snow on Friday and my frantic checking of the radar was starting to get to poor Debbie. She just told me to put the phone down and it'll be white over in the morning. Sure enough, against all odds, it was!

We'd had about half an inch of snow overnight and so after swimming, decided to go for a walk round Langset Reservoir. By the time we set off, almost all of the snow had melted at home but thankfully it was still holding on up in the Pennines.

We set of on our normal route but decided to do it in reverse, when we came to a parting of the paths, rather than battle through the muddy woods, we opted for a higher route. We didn't realise this would take us right on the top of Langset Moor!

It was absolutely freezing up there in the bleak wilderness, there wasn't a soul about, all we had for company were loads of grouse calling and fluttering into the air.

We were walking non stop for over two and half hours, Lucy's little legs were worn out. We thoroughly enjoyed it though, but not half as much as the hot cup of coffee when we got back to the car!

There Be Snow In Them There Hills!

You know we've been busy bunnies when it's been snowing for 3 days and we've not posted anything! Most of the snow has gone from our garden now but Debbie got loads of shots on Thursday and Friday night.

It really did come down last night, we probably had a couple of inches, which these days is about as much as we can hope for, alas during the night it turned to rain and the snow was already melting when we emerged this morning.

With the snow rapidly melting down here in the village, we had a ride up to Holme Moss to see how much snow there was up there. Well, the was loads of the stuff, but only right at the very top, accompanied by thick fog so photo opportunities were somewhat limited!

We dropped down back over Woodhead and went for a walk round Langsett Wood again and were treated to some beautiful snow enhanced scenery. There must have been up to 8 inches in places and walking up and down the paths was more tricky than usual.

It doesn't look like we'll be getting any more snow just yet, but I think we've satisfied our appetite for the glorious white stuff for now at least.
