Feed The Birds Day

This weekend we've been out in the garden and got loads more done. We've moved all the rose bushes that were growing in the lawn up to their own rose bed in front of one of the sheds. This has made it much easier to mow the lawn, not having to slalom round all the bushes and spending ages strimming while trying not to take out the roses at the same time. The rockery has gone which was also in the lawn, we won't be getting that awfull grinding noise from the lawnmower any more! After the mowing, Debbie did some weeding in the flower beds and I've got the roots from one of the old trees dug out.

All that remains to be sorted out before winter sets in is the pile of tree branches at the top of the garden. Our neighbour has lent us a metal bin to burn them in, however, for two nights runnning we had nothing but rain so we've not been able to make a start on that yet. It looks like for the first time ever we'll be having a bonfire on Bonfire Night, we're even tempted to go out and get a few fireworks!

Saturday 28th October is Feed The Birds Day, organized by the RSPB. I'm really going to give the bird feeding go this year, we do already feed the birds but all we ever seem to attrract are starlings and that's only if we put those fruity suet sqaures out, the peanunts and sunflower seeds are never touched.

While working in the garden I moved the bird table a couple of metres away from the fence because I think the smaller birds may feel threatened being so close to somewhere cats could easily get to. We picked up a couplpe of new bird feeders on Sunday which we've filled with peanuts, black sunflower seeds and sunflower hearts. I'm also on the lookout for a bigger bird table, the one we've got is a little bit on the small side and it's does look a little bit cramped with all those feeders hanging from it.

Today we’re finally having the roof sorted out, from tonight onwards, it can rain all it wants!

Buds In The Garden

Our website photo album is now up to date, it's been quite a marathon getting all the pictures on there but it's been worth it to make sure they're always available to view. Now we can start creating more new pages and post just a little bit more often on here!

We had a busy weekend with Debbie's Sister and family coming over on Saturday and Dad coming over on Sunday. It's just as well we had guests and had already abandoned the idea of doing any gardening as we had rain, hail, sleet, snow and frost.

The garden is starting to spring into life though, the unseasonable weather doesn't seem to be affecting the daffodils too much and other flowers around the garden are now staring to bud after their winter break. Lets just hope the weather picks up for the Easter break and just maybe, we'll get the new lawns down before September!

I can't remember which night this was but it was one night last week, Debbie was waving at me through the window. I thought, where has she found a plate in the garden? Nothing to do with plates this time though, Debbie was beckoning me outside to watch the beautiful sunset.....

Howdy doody doo!

We've had a busy weekend again. We went shopping on Saturday for a digital camcorder, it was a bit of a nightmare but we got one in the end and by Monday night we we're watching ourselves on the dvd player . . . top banana!

We went for a ride up to snake pass (near Glossop) at the weekend, it was a little bit on the cold side. We got a little bit of video footage up there and I look like Captain Scott of the Antartic in my big snorkel coat being blown all over the place ...lol... We came back home via Holme Moss to watch the sunset again, not quite as good as the other week due to lack of cloud cover, but it was still lovely.

No sign of any snow yet, we been on the look out since September ..lol.. Hey ho, it's only early days yet and who knows, we might be snowed in for Christmas!

Back again, a long time since our last update, we must update this thing more often. We've been out taking piccies that we were going to do two months ago ..lol..

Latest news is that Debbie has started her new job and is settling in nicely and we are now looking forward to christmas. We've been out and bought loads of decorations, watch out for power cuts when we switch on next month ..lol..

We've been out this afternoon taking pictures of the sunset over the pennines and it was more spectacular than we were hoping for. Can't wait while we get some snow and we'll back up there again . . .with a flask.







Well, off we go again to crack a couple of cans of cider and a glass or three of wine while watching scooby doo and sleepy hollow...
