Sandsend & Hole Of Horcum

I've been so pre-occupied with the birds over the last few months, it almost feels like I'm guest posting here! Anyway, I took my eye off the Gulls and Oystercatchers long enough for a few landscape shots at Sandsend and the Hole of Horcum on the North Yorkshire Moors.

Sandsend In Black n White

We had a fantastic day at Sandsend yesterday, we managed to set off early, car packed with the essentials eg: Lucy, Paul, cameras, butties and most important COFFEE!!

Arriving early was fantastic, we were greeted with an almost empty beech, it was quite blustery, but very very enjoyable :o)

We have never been to Sandsend before but we will definatley be doing back with a hammer as there is lots of fosiles to dig for.

I have done 3 sets of photo shots:-

Black n White, beech & sky

Here are some back n white shots :o)

Bempton To The Rescue

We set off on Saturday morning for a day at the coast, Ravenscar to be precise. We were hoping to get down to the beach there but after an hour walking through insect infested fields, we got nowhere. We even stumbled into an area with a warning sign to keep dogs on a lead due to Adders! I'm no fan of snakes, especially poisenoius ones so I made sure they all cleared off by stomping about until we escaped the snake pit!

Naffed off by the whole experience, we headed down the coast to RSPB Bempton, safe from snakes, buzzy things and paths leading to nowhere. The cliffs were still lively with Gannets, Kittiwakes, Puffins and gulls of all shapes and sizes going about their business.

Here is a collection of shots taken by Debbie.

Hot & Sunny Flamborough

On Saturday that plan was to go to Tropical World in Leeds to get some shots of butterflies, this was because the weather forecast for the weekend was for rain all day. We awoke very early to be greeted by sunshine and the new weather forecast was completely differing, sunshine all day!

So we decided to go with an earlier plan, back to Flamborough for a proper look after a brief visit earlier in the year.

We set off walking from the North Landing hoping to make it all the way to Bempton but with the scorching heat and the heavy going, we eventually gave up and made our way back. Rather walking along the cliffs on the other side of the bay as last time, we made our way down a very steep hill to the beach and explored the cliffs and rocks sea level.

Below are a selection of images we captured from this beautiful stretch of the Yorkshire Coast.

A Day At The Coast

A day at the coast and where else but Robin Hoods Bay! We got there early to beat the tide and the traffic, both of which we accomplished. The sea fret was never far away so the lovely panoramics of the bay we love taking were all but impossible, either the shots were too dark or they were over exposed.

Still, we had a relaxing stroll amongst the rock pools, soaking up the Spring sunshine and the sea air. I'm sure we've been on colder days in August and by mid morning, it started getting busy with folks wanting to take advantage of the early dose of warm weather.

We moved on to Whitby and as we expected it was busy, Lucy hates it because she's always within an inch of being stood on, it was about a pleasurable as poking yourself in the eye with a sharp stick. I think that will be our last Whitby visit until about January although I suspect even then, in rain, sleet or snow, we'd be battling with the crowds.

Here's a selection of images from our day, all taken by Debbie.
