Sheffield Botanical Gardens

We had a walk round Sheffield Botanical Gardens yesterday, loads of flowers to photograph but it weren't half hot!

There was a classical orchestra practicing for the evenings performance, playing the soundtrack from Pirates Of The Caribbean, couldn't help but sway along the footpaths in time to the music. Could have done with some rum as well but a lollipop each from the ice cream van was the sensible option!

Six Spot Burnet Moths

On the cycle to work during the week, I stopped off at the meadow to see I could see anything of the Kestrel. No birds of prey that morning but there must have been hundreds of Six Spot Burnet Moths emerging, drying and flying absolutely everywhere.

It's a shame I had to leave and carry on to work, otherwise I'd have been there all day getting them from every conceivable angle!

Evening In The Garden

With the weather being beyond too hot & humid to bare, we had a wander round the garden last night, Debbie with her camera snapping away and me with my camera cursing away.

Debbie, it seems, has mastered the art of low light photography with her Canon while me and my Nikon are still trying to work it out!

It was gone half past nine and the light was almost gone, yet Debbie was still shooting as though it was noon. As we edged towards ten o'clock, even Mrs David Bailey had to admit defeat.

Rivelin Valley

We had a great walk through the Rivelin Valley in Sheffield on Sunday, picking up the river on the outskirts of the city and following it's course for miles until the heat beat us.

It's a beautiful place to explore, although the light played ticks with both cameras all day so the pictures don't really do it justice.

I think this will be a great place to visit in winter, when it's just a tad cooler!

Wentworth Gardens

I'm not sure if they are called Wentworth Gardens but "the public gardens behind the garden centre in Wentworth" is a bit long for a title!

We've been to the garden centre loads of times over the years and often noticed the lovely gardens just over the wall, however, until today we've never got around to having a look.

The gardens are lovely but they are in the middle of some renovation work at the moment so some areas were off limits but it promises to be even better when the work is complete. Even with the limited access, Debbie got some great shots of the flora and fauna on show.

I think we'll try it again when the work is done and a little earlier before the masses spill over from the garden centre.
