Yet More Surprise Snow

You just can't beat British weather, especially the Met Office! They've were spot on all week forecasting snow all around us, until that is, Friday evening when we had a couple of hours of heavy snow, followed by some more flurries on Saturday night and a very light dusting last night, not that we're complaining!

The logs at the top of the garden looked great after Saturday nights unexpected dusting.

Sasha and Lucy were outing hunting snowballs that I'd been throwing over the weekend, not many to be found though because Lollypop caught and ate most of them lol.

flick00283

The sunset on Sunday night was lovely, definitely worth hoping about in our frosty garden and then steaming up when I got back inside.

flick00284

I thought this was cool, a single jet trail lit by the setting sun with black clouds in the distance promising another dusting of snow.

flick00285

I just had to get a shot of this in the early hours, any ideas what it is?

More Surprise Snow!

It wasn’t forecast so we weren’t expecting it to start snowing as we left work on Friday. It came down really heavy for a couple hours leaving about an inch of snow. The fields and trees looked beautiful on the way home, just like they’d been sprinkled with icing sugar.

I wish we could have got more pictures but we had to get the shopping home and feed the hungry zoo. Here’s a few shots we did manage to get.

Cold, Frosty, But Still No Snow

A little porky pie there, we had a couple of light flurries yesterday afternoon but nothing else from this week long cold snap, while Northern Scotland have had bucket loads of the falling white stuff.

flick00274

We've hit -7.1c this morning which I think is the coldest temperature I've seen on our thermometer, the ground is white with frost everywhere, I'm just glad the wind has dropped away or we would have to be going out dressed up like Chris Bonington!

Cat Dies From Bird Flu

Rather worrying news today is that a European cat has died from bird flu and it's certainly got our attention. We've not been that fussed about bird flu sweeping across the world, given that if you don't muck about with an infected bird, you can't catch it. What this news item from the BBC has made us realize is that it's not impossible for a diseased bird to be grounded locally at some point and if Misty, Toddy or Eric get hold of it then surely it could be curtains for them and quite possibly for us too.

flick00273

Maybe we're worrying too much and normally we don't take too much notice of these scare stories but it's definitely given us something to think about. That said, I would have thought that other counties would be experiencing a problem with the disease spreading though their cat and dog population, so if it were a risk, surely the problem would have shown itself by now.

What do we do, can we risk letting the cats out or do we play it safe?

Cold Winter Sunshine

If only we lived in North Yorkshire, then we might see a bit more snow from these pesky Northerlies and North Westerlies. It's snowing today on the east Coast but here inland we're sheltered from the North by the Pennines.

flick00272

All I can do is watch from afar, the snow falling in Scotland on Traffic Scotland. Still, second best to snow is glorious winter sunshine and it's looks as though it's going to be like this all day, although it's still bloody freezing!

Roses & Heather

The garden is still looking like a building site, we’ve not had time this weekend to get out there and do some digging.

flick00269

We have, however, been to the garden centre and bought some heather, mini roses and daisy’s which we’ve planted in the boarders.

flick00270

It’s still looking a little bare at the moment but things should start spreading out once they get going.

flick00271

I think we’re doing quite well to say that we’re still in the depths of winter….until Wednesday that is ..lol..

Surprise Snow

When I took the dogs out at 6am this morning it was raining, then when we came downstairs at 6.30am, it was snowing! It just kept on coming until about 8am by which time we had a good 2-3cm of lying snow. The minor roads were a nightmare and main road was at a standstill but luckily not in the direction we needed to go! Here's a few snaps taken on the mobile this morning...

Touch Of Snow

We woke to a light covering of snow this morning, sadly it's turning to sleet and forecast to turn to rain soon.

flick00250

He ho, maybe there's still time for a blizzard and 3 feet of snow to fall.......well I can dream lol.

Brokeback Garden

It's been one long hard slog this weekend, those pesky pebbles are chuffin heavy when you get to the 50th barrow full! I got them all shifted though and we're now ready to start preparing the ground for our new lawns. At least I've got a week to recover before getting stuck in with the fork, turning over all the soil.

flick00247

The cats enjoyed being outdoors over the weekend, well Toddy here and Eric did, Misty spent most of the time watching from the kitchen, he doesn't do cold weather!

flick00248

We had our first butterfly of the year in our garden which seems a bit early to me.

flick00249

Hopefully, with the new lawns and flowers this year, we'll be seeing plenty more butterflies through the spring and summer months.
